I had this whole newsletter all set and ready to go yesterday, and then last night, while scrolling through delightful videos from the Met Ball, up pops the news from SCOTUS. Wow. It’s not a surprise, but it’s still a shock. Funny the timing, that abortion rights are being dismantled as we approach Mother’s Day. Us mothers know how completely and utterly parenthood changed our lives. We know how much it requires, financially and emotionally and every other way. It’s a choice we entered into.
This Mother’s Day, I’ll be thinking not only about my wonderful mom and mother-in-law, but about the women who are right now having to make a tough choice—and who will have new obstacles to tackle in order to undergo a safe abortion. A good resource is abortionfinder.org.
But back to the task at hand: Mother’s Day is this Sunday. If you need to write a card, below are my four Mad Libs-style prompts. One gift idea is to write your Mother’s Day message as an inscription in a book, perhaps mine?
If you are someone for whom Mother’s Day is a tough one for any reason, I am sending you a hug.
